With the latest rape of a schoolgirl, Bangalore tops the four major cities in south India in attacks on women, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data for 2013.
Bangalore now ranks third, after Delhi and Mumbai in notoriously attacking women in the top 53 mega cities in the country.
Bangalore registered 2,608 cases of crimes against women in 2013, foolowed by Hyderabad with 2,132 such cases, Chennai 838 and Thiruvananthapuram 616 cases of attacks and crimes against women.
In terms of crimes against one lakh women or intensity, Thiruvananthapuram tops with the highest rate of crime against women.
In terms of rape, Hyderabad registered the highest number of rape cases (101) among the four major cities in south India. Chennai registered 83 rape cases, Bangalore 80 and Thiruvananthapuram registered 54 rape cases.
Bangalore registered the highest number of cases of molestation and outrage against women (451), followed by Hyderabad (315), Thiruvananthapuram (332) and Chennai (210).
In the last 14 years of IT secotr development, Bangalore and Hyderabad cities have seen a sharp rise in crime and also attacks on women in view of a surge in migrant community of skilled workers, especially women from other states and cities, said police officials.
