The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to equip over 200 AC buses with WiFi after a pilot on 10 buses recently running on the International Airport routes, Hebbal- Silk Board and Chikkabanavara-Majestic routes.
“The contractor started a trial run on ten buses and informed us that the service would be provided in remaining 190 AC buses in a phased manner. We have also floated tender to provide Wi-Fi services in 500 ordinary buses”, Ekroop Cuar, MD, BMTC, told Bangalore Mirror.
Bangalore has more than 600 AC buses and with most of them operating on long distances and for far off IT offices in the city outskirts and the Wi-Fi may come as a major relief for IT professionals to work while on the go to the office or from the office, saving almost two hours daily to login to their office accounts.
The next plan is to extend the facility to charter service buses plying on the IT corridor. These buses will have better seats and equipped more comfortably to browse and work online while going to the office, besides a GPS-enabled tracking through mobile applications.
