Karnataka’s Consortium of private colleges COMEDK has announced the entrance test date for 2016 as Sunday, May 8, for admissions to Under Graduate Medical, Dental and Engineering Courses in member institutes.
There are 14 medical, 23 dental and more than 150 engineering colleges in Karnataka where the admission can be taken after clearing the COMEDK 2016 with high a ranking.

Karnataka private institutions under the umbrella of COMEDK have for the first time decided to reach out to the candidates across India and hold the 2016 entrance exam closer to their homes to minimize the cost incurred in travelling, logistics and the hardships of travel to Karnataka, bnreaking from the tradition to hold the exam only in Karnataka state.
Candidates can register online at www.Comedk.org and open the link to apply for the exam. COMEDK has partnered with ERA Foundation, India (www.unigauge.com)for the conduct of online examination this time. The COMEDK exam will be held on May 8 and the results will be available online on May 28.
While no information is given officially by the COMEDK, private colleges, especially those in demand will start collecting huge fee amount from this year onwards. In 2014, a seat in engineering via COMEDK rank was given for a maximum fee of Rs.137,000, in 2015 the fee was Rs.280,000 in Manipal and PES University and other colleges.
COMEDK entrance examination for 2016 will have more or less the same eligibility criteria that is followed in general all over the country as follows:
The candidates should have cleared their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board under State/Central Government, the last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject.
The General Merit candidates must have passed these Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in these subjects (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State).
The candidates who are appearing for the mentioned qualifying examination and are expecting the percentage of marks as mentioned above are also eligible to apply for the exam of ComedK.
The General Merit candidates must secure an aggregate of at least 50% marks (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka) iin PCB subjects in the COMEDK UG entrance test 2016.
English is one of the subjects, to be tested along with Physics, Chemistry and Biology during COMEDK UGET – 2016. The General Merit candidates should secure not less than 50% marks in English (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka).
However, the marks secured in English test will not be taken into concern while determining the rank of candidates, it will be decided exclusively based on the minimum required marks secured by the candidates in PCB subjects.
Further, a candidate is not entitled for a rank if he/she fails to secure 50% or 40% of the marks as the case may be in English. The paper of English language will be of 10+2 standards and will test the comprehension of the candidates on the language, the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences.
The candidate should be 17 years of age as on December 31, 2016 and COMEDK has clearly barred candidates from applying on following criteia:
Candidates who have passed the 10+2 or equivalent before 2014.
Candidates having qualified the exam earlier and had selected an MBBS seat through COMEDK but failed to join the college that was selected or failed to surrender the said seat at the COMEDK level giving valid reasons or having joined the college that was selected but, failed to pursue the course.
Candidates pursuing a Medical Under Graduate course anywhere in India. Diploma candidates are non-eligible for appearing in the Entrance Test as there is no option for lateral admissions.
Candidates who were caught attempting to impersonate or found following/adopting any of the malpractices earlier including entertaining the touts and agents.
Eligibility criteria for Engineering and Architecture are as follows:
Based on written request of KUPECA, the following shall be the eligibility criteria for Engineering and Architecture courses.
The qualifying examination prescribed for admission for B.E./B. Arch is 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination from a board recognized by State / Central Government and the last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject.
The General Merit candidates should have cleared with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and should have passed these subjects individually as well.
Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biology Technology or Biology or any other technical vocational courses as one of the optional subjects. However, changes, if any, in the eligibility criteria by the AICTE will be adopted.
An attempt in the COMEDK Entrance Test seeking admission to Engineering courses is considered adequate for figuring in the rank list.
Diploma candidates are non-eligible for appearing in the Entrance Test as there is no option for lateral admissions.
The qualifying examination for admission to B. Arch course is 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects along with other subjects or a 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central / State Government with at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka).
The candidates should have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) exam conducted by the Council of Architecture and should have scored 80 out of 200 marks by the students.
There will be no Entrance Test conducted for candidates seeking admission in B. Arch Course and they need to submit applications seperately.
