‘Kick’ Box Office Collection: Salman Starrer Fails to Beat Shahrukh’s ‘Chennai Express’ and Aamir Khan ‘Dhoom 3’

Sajid Nadiadwala’s film, “Kick” starring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles is rocking at the box office, collecting over ₹80 crores in just three days but it has failed to break the record of Shahrukh Khan’s “Chennai Express” and Aamir Khan’s “Dhoom 3” weekend collection.

“Kick”, which was released before Eid, made an opening collection of ₹26.50 crore before going on to earn ₹27.15 crore on Saturday and ₹30.18 crore on Sunday, taking the weekend collection to ₹83.83, according to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.

However, the film failed to beat weekend collections of “Chennai Express” and “Dhoom 3”. Shahrukh and Deepika Padukone starrer made over 93 crore in just three days, and its weekend collections, including earning from previews, stood at ₹100.42 crore, according to Taran Adarsh. However, the record was broken by Aamir and Katrina Kaif starrer a few months later by crossing ₹100 crore mark in domestic box office in just three days.

Salman’s “Kick” may have failed to beat “Chennai Express” and “Dhoom 3” but its weekend collection is the highest this year, beating Hrithik Roshan’s “Krrish 3” and Ranbir Kapoor’s “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani”.

With the film all set to cross ₹100 crore in the next couple of days, Salman will become the first actor to have most films that have crossed the elite mark. His other films that made more than ₹100 crore at the box office are “Ek Tha Tiger,” “Dabangg 2,” “Bodyguard,” “Dabangg,” “Ready,” and “Jai Ho”.

The film is expected to do well this weekend with Eid holidays set to start. It is also doing good business overseas, according to Taran Adarsh.

Produced and directed by filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala, “Kick” was released in over 4,000 screens in India and 700 screens overseas on 25 July. It is a remake of Telugu film with the same title starring Ravi Teja and directed by Surender Reddy.

Interestingly, Surender Reddy posted on his Facebook page that he is not satisfied with the Hindi remake of his film.

“Watched the Hindi remake Kick. It definitely does not do justice to our original movie or to Salman. Kick would have been the biggest movie ever for Salman if the makers understood the spirit of Kick,” wrote Reddy.
