With the work on Kempegowda Interchange metro station at Majestic almost completed, officials of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) said the inspection team will visit for clearance of safety on Friday, March 25.
Once the safety clearance is granted by the Commissioner for Railway Safety, the new corridor connecting Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road, will be thrown open to the public from April 14, said officials, who have taken minister KJ Goerge for a test ride last week along with mediapersons.
“We will be inviting the team for safety clearance from March 25. There are not many people using the metro for now, but this will increase in the coming months as more sections are opened,” said George. The work on other underground stations in this section such as Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Sir M. Visvesvaraya Museum and City Railway Station are undergoing final touches still.
The other North–South line from Peenya to Kempegowda will be longway with the other line connecting JP Nagar is yet to take shape. On funds crunch for Metro project, the minister said several CEOs of companies located on the Outer Ring Road have been invited for discussions on linking Dairy Circle to K.R. Puram by metro through a public-private partnership model.
The other major metro project connecting the airport is also under PPP consideration, he said. “We are also discussing connectivity to the airport and will take a decision soon,” he added.
Once the east-west corridor is opened, those in Byappanahalli and Indiranagar can travel to Mysore Road stretching 18.5 KM in less than 40 minutes. In fact, it was supposed to have been opened by March 2016 but is delayed by one month, while other lines are delayed by more than six months.
BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said the Majestic station is ready and once the CRS team clears the stations and tracks, services are likely to be begin by April. He said the work on North-South corridor is about four months away while the operation of Northern line, Nagasandra to Kempegowda station will be finalised by June 2016.
On JP Nagar-centric Kempegowda station to City Market to Yelachenahalli (Kanakapura Road) line will be opened by July, he said though delay is likely on this line.[tags, namma metro, bengaluru metro delay, new lines, east west corridor opening date, kanakapura line open date, mysore road opening date, namma metro delay, minister, corruption]
