A new attestation branch secretariat (ABC) will be functional from June 1, 2016 at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Koramangala, Bangalore.
Bangalore Regional Passport Officer P S Karthigeyan told DH that the office will be one 10 new ABC offices being opened across the country. Earlier, the nearest office for Bangaloreans was Chennai or Hyderabad.
“The decision to launch the ABC in Bengaluru RPO was taken about two weeks ago. There are 37 RPOs across the country, including Bengaluru, and about 10 RPOs have been chosen for the ABC,” Karthigeyan told DH.
At present, the ABCs are in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata for attestation of documents related to personal documents such as birth, death, marriage and divorce, educational documents like marks card and degree certificates and commercial documents including business registration and tax returns.
Foreign governments accept only those certificates attested by MEA and not any other state authority, while educational documents necessarily require attestation from the Ministry of Human Resources Development and MEA’s seal.
The new ABC office in RPO, Bangalore is expected to benefit more than 35,000 people from Karnataka, especially from Bangalore. Of late, many Bangaloreans have been travelling to destinations including the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, Singapore and the Gulf countries.
